We are right in the middle of Fall 2026 and the program is over for the year. Here is the October Newsletter. 

Recap of the September 17^th meeting

Hello, DAMA NYC Members!

Last week, we welcomed Donna Burbank to our September 17th DAMA NYC meeting, our last meeting for 2026, for a half-day session on Master Data Management for AI.

Donna brought an important reminder to all data professionals: good data work depends on good communication. AI has brought a lot more attention to data from our business partners. We often care about the same problems, but we don’t always speak the same professional language. Business teams and executives know their areas deeply. They know what they’re trying to achieve. We need to explain how data can help them get there, or our value will not be visible.

Donna encouraged us to speak the language of the business. Do they need an auditable report? Lineage matters. Do they need an AI agent to automate the supply chain? Data quality matters.

Does a team need an auditable report? Let’s show how data lineage traces a number back to its source. Does it want an AI agent to help manage its supply chain? Let’s talk about the data quality that agent would need.

Meanwhile, somewhere behind the scenes, there’s our Mary, working over the weekend to clean a spreadsheet so everyone else can keep moving. Donna’s example made the goal of MDM relatable for everyone: give Mary her weekends back.

One strategy we discussed was feeding what we learn in MDM and DQ processes back into the source system. Fixing a problem there can help the next report, the next team, and the next AI project.

Are we speaking a common language with our business partners? Is our MDM work helping the whole organization? The session gave us plenty to think about. Thank you, Donna, for a lively and practical discussion!
