President's Report

To DAMA New York City Members:

First of all I want to thank all the Members, Speakers and Sponsors who participated in DAMA Day 2017. You all made the event a great success. We had over 106 attendees, which was one of our highest number of attendees since Pat Komar, our past president was having the event in the Marriott hotel in Time Square. We us to have over 250 people to attend but at a much higher expense per person. We have already begun work on DAMA Day 2018. Thanks again.

We have been hard at work developing a special relationship with both AIG and NYU making them a Super Corporate Member. Both AIG and NYU have agreed to let us use their conference centers for future meetings and we have agreed to let them invite more of their members to our events.

This has already begun to happen as NYU is the venue for our June 17th meeting. We believe this will be a win/win for all organizations at it will generate greater attendance at our meetings and we will also have a larger active membership base. We are currently working out the details.  Please join us on June 15th at NYU. See details below for directions.

 Predictive Text Analytics

“Text analytics is young and imperfect, yet it is the hottest development area in analytics today….   Bringing together unstructured data with structured data is the ultimate goal”

Meta S Brown - Analytics Summit USA; Author of Data Mining for Dummies

Borrowing from Meta’s headline above, text analytics is indeed young and imperfect and as such it means different things to different people. In this session we will explain how we combine our ontology based text mining software with our genetic programming base data mining software to provide predictive text analytic support for our clients.

The presentation will examine the differences between Natural Language Processing (NLP) based text mining versus our ontology based product and how different data sources generate different text mining results.

We will use slides, case studies and live demos to show how we process unstructured data from any source into client specific subjects and convert that to structured numeric data. To provide the predictive component, we add revenue/unit data to the text mining output and model that via our data mining product. This enables us to identify the text subjects that are driving/will drive the business.
