This year is the 45th anniversary of Dr. Peter Chen’s seminal work “The Entity-Relationship Model-Toward a Unified View of Data”. For many of us, this spans a substantial amount of our career in Data Management. Surely the passage of time and sum of all our experiences would collectively give our industry a level of maturity and credibility within our organizations?
Information technology seems to have taken a page from the Bionic Man promoting “Better, Stronger and Faster” systems. Yet we seem to be facing a familiar number of challenges about data quality, integration, and governance.
This presentation will consist of two parts. First, a review the general elements for the maturation of a process with specific level setting for Data Management. Second, based on levels of maturity, what pragmatic behavior Data Management practitioners can do to enhance their relevance within their organization.
