DAMA NYC – February 2017 President’s Report

 To our DAMA New York City Members:

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the DAMA New York City Chapter, I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year!   We are very excited to offer our membership another year of informative and relevant programming!  We are confident that you will learn from each other as well as industry and vendor speakers throughout the year.  We look forward to networking with you at our meetings and events.

February 16th Meeting
For those of you who are interested in becoming certified (CDMP, CDG etc) or how to prepare for the CDMP Test sponsored by DAMA International, please register for our February 16th meeting which will be conducted by April Reeve, our Program Chair. Please register early, because seats are limited. See below for details. 

Mark your calendar for DAMA Day 2017 which will be on May 18th at IBM, 590 Madison Avenue (57th). The theme is “Big Data Integration” and we are developing our program with top notch speakers. Read in the Newsletter below for details. Keep watching for more news on the DAMA NYC website.

Looking for Volunteers
If you are looking for an opportunity to help our DAMA New York City chapter but don’t want to lock yourself in for long term, there are other options.   We are looking for volunteers to help us with Membership, Marketing and with the coordination of facilities for our events and meetings. It’s probably no more than 5- 6 hours per month.  If you are interested in helping and want to be considered please email .

If there is something new you would like us to investigate as a future meeting topic, just drop us a line using the comments feature and send it to and we will research your idea(s) and consider them for our Program in the future.

Overview on the DAMA International Certification program

The Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) is the industry standard designation for Data Management professionals, providing an independent assessment of their comprehension and knowledge of Data Management, which can be used to enhance personal career development and advancement. 

The agenda for this session:

  •          What is certification and why is it important?
  •          The history of the CDMP
  •          The overall CDMP certification process
  •          Testing for the CDMP and overview of individual exams
  •          Relationship of DAMA-DMBoK to CDMP exams
  •          The current status of CDMP
  •          Next steps on the path to certification

This session will include a discussion of how the DAMA NYC chapter should support certification going forward.

The speaker will be April Reeve, Program Chair, DAMA NYC.

April Reeve has spent the last 25 years working as an enterprise architect and program manager. April is an expert in multiple Data disciplines including Data Integration, Big Data, Data Conversion, Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, Master Data Management, and Data Governance.

She is the author of “Managing Data In Motion: Best Practice Data Integration Techniques and Technologies” which is published by Morgan Kaufmann.
